Years ago, stock market activity and performance exhibited definite seasonality. Summer time was sleepy as many traders and investors took time off to enjoy the season. Memorial Day marked the beginning and Labor Day the end. There is still some seasonality, just not as pronounced. With the twenty-four hour news cycle and globalization, not much seems to change from one period to another. Yet people do get away, make time for their families, and enjoy a bit more leisure.
Stock market volumes are low this time of year unless some event creates activity; both positive and negative. Participants are not asleep, but need substantial reason to become active. They would rather keep the market in the back ground; at least for a while.
