Index Fund

Index Fund: A type of mutual fund with a portfolio constructed to match or track the components of a market index (indicator), such as the S&P 500. They are used to diversify and reduce risk of an investment portfolio across hundreds of stocks.  Index funds are very specific to the index that it is tracking.
