NASDAQ: The Nasdaq Stock Market, also known as Nasdaq, is an American stock exchange, the second-largest in the world by market capitalization, behind only the New York Stock Exchange located in the same city. It focuses on trading the stocks of technology companies.
Initially an acronym for the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations. It was founded in 1971 by the same, but in 2000 and 2001 divested itself of Nasdaq in a series of sales. As of March 2019, there were approximately 3900 listings with a market cap of $10 trillion.
