Investing in a Volatile Market

Image
By Peter Bower

The Bull and his partners have been expecting this volatile market period since August. How do we and how should you handle this investing environment? Remember, volatility goes both ways: up and down.

  • Number one: be patient.
  • Be prepared with some money on the sidelines.
  • Upgrade your portfolio by eliminating the dead wood.
  • Prepare a list of hopeful candidates for acquisition with target price ranges.
  • Don’t freeze up but pick off a few stocks when opportunity arises.
  • Go slowly, no need to spend too quickly.
  • Scale in, partial positions are fine.
  • Be patient, be patient, be patient.

It’s not complicated; it just requires a belief that markets work out and difficult periods are followed by more optimistic ones. That has been the history of our markets and there is no reason to doubt that it will continue. Use volatility to your advantage. At the very least, stay steady my friends.
