The economy continues to befuddle so many investors. Many want to see decline and others keep waiting for acceleration. Instead, the economy keeps plodding along at around 2%; at times a little less and others a little more. Not a hare, but a tortoise that is making steady progress in a volatile up and down world.
Instead of being disappointed in slow growth, maybe we ought to be happy with constancy. Fast growth brings about its own problems as does no growth. Two percent for an economy as large as ours is pretty good. It’s especially good for stocks; generating neither inflation nor other distortions and yet provides a good operating environment for business. Stay steady my friends and enjoy the pace.
