Temperament

Investing takes patience and a certain faith that most things work out. In a dynamic economy like ours, ways are found to overcome challenges. We have just gone through a very volatile period. Most investors seemed to remain committed, while many professional investors panicked. They felt that they needed to take action to preserve capital or mitigate the downside. Unfortunately, many found it difficult to re-enter the market at prices less than those they had sold. Selling low and buying back higher is not a good prescription for success.

In his annual letter, Warren Buffett cautioned investors that if they get too excited by rising markets and too depressed by falling ones, then perhaps they should not be in the stock market. The Bull and his partners offer another alternative. Work with advisors that do have the temperament needed. Throughout this period and many others, the Bull and his partners have demonstrated a cool, steady hand. We have many years of experience and know how to read events.

Preparation, by analyzing needs and preferences, is paramount. Take us up on our offer of free financial planning. It is a great way to set expectations versus needs. Then, an appropriate allocation for your circumstances can be established. Some people should have only a small allocation to stocks. There are many other ways to meet reasonable goals.
