Market Dynamics After the First of a New Year

So often, what was white turns black and vice versa. Investors may wait until after the first of the year to book profits in their winners to put off taxes until April 15th of the subsequent year. By contrast, last year’s losers can be seen as bargains and get scooped up after having been beat down toward the end of the previous year under tax-loss selling. Winners track down and losers up.

Later in January, earnings begin being reported for the previous year. Then, a different dynamic takes place. Perhaps the long-term stock trends established before year end reassert themselves. Or earnings surprises, both good and bad, establish new trends. All these dynamics make January a very interesting investment period. January often sets the tenor for the remainder of the entire year. We will report to you what we are seeing. However, in the meantime, look past all of this and focus on each company’s prospects. That is what the Bull and his partners are now doing. Stay steady my friends.
